A white collar boxing match will be held in Bassingbourn later this month to raise money for the family of a young boxer who died of motor neurone disease to go on a holiday together.

The boxing match, which will help raise money for Paul Paddick’s wife and two daughters, was arranged by his former boxing partner Billy Crotty from Royston.

Billy said: “We used to train together in Cheshunt, where Paul lived.

“We want to give the family some time off so they can go on a little holiday as it’s been a tough time for them.

“I said to his family, ‘Paul would have been the first to get involved in something like this’, so I wanted to give something back – they were really pleased when I asked.

“Paul was a nice normal guy, he got on with everyone.

“Everyone would give him the time of day.”

Paul, who used to work for R and J Scaffolding, died in April at the age of 28 after a seven-year battle with motor neurone disease.

The boxing match will be held at Bassingbourn Sports Centre in South End on June 18. Doors open at 6pm.

An auction will be held – hopefully with some equipment donated by Paul’s friend and WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders.

People are encouraged to sponsor bouts, with the money raised going to the family.

The gold VIP tickets are £550 for a ringside table of 10 with table service and hog roast and rolls, or vegetarian option.

Silver tickets are £350 for a table of 10, and are further back but still with waiter services for drinks.

There are also tickets left to stand at the back of hall and in the viewing gallery for £25.

There will also be a licensed bar, and food and refreshments will be available. The dress code is smart.

To get tickets for the event, which will see many former amateur boxers get back in the ring and a few recognisable faces like Royston’s very own Brad “Buzzsaw” Evans – who was crowned ABA senior featherweight champ in 2008, and the Crotty Brothers, Kevin ‘Captain’ Earley, Dave ‘The Animal’ Stivrins, and Jim ‘Iron’ Barr, contact Billy directly on 07719 306404 or by emailing billy@toptreefellas.co.uk.
