A Royston man will be climbing the height of Mount Everest at the weekend – on a gym step machine at the leisure centre.

John Burgess, 49, will be spending roughly eight hours taking the tiny steps to drum up funds for Cancer Research UK in memory of his mum Kay Burgess, who died in 2013.

He said: “When my mum had cancer she used to say that every day was a step up, so that’s one of the reasons I decided to do this in her memory.”

John, who works at biotech company Asterand, will be tackling the challenge at Royston Leisure Centre on Saturday.
