This year’s Royston in Blue run has been hailed “a very successful day”, with more than 650 runners descending upon Therfield Heath for the 5km race.

This is the sixth year the heath turned into a sea of blue as runners stepped up for the Teenager Cancer Trust.

Organiser Lisa Thompson said: “We have had some wonderful feedback on how well organised the whole event was, and the highlight of the day was to see the town mayor Vera Swallow joining in with the warm-up led by Susy Hallewell.

“The Meridian School band started off the day with a few songs, and thanks must go Freman College for the help of all their sports leaders who helped out before, during and after the event.

“Thanks must also go to Royston Runners for the their equipment and helpers, to Toby Snowden and to Heath Sports for letting us take over. There’s also Longcrofts Transport and Roger Huffer, Dawn Taylor and Cathyrn Norman for organising registration, and Guy Thompson and Andrea Cook for all their help setting up the course and sorting out the marshalls.

“Finally, there’s my wonderful committee – Tracey Coote, Lorraine Thompson, Vanessa Stubbs, Clare Pilsworth, Judith Anderson, Yvonne and Lucy Mackintosh and Grace Thompson.”

Thomas Kelly, who runs Margaret House Residential and Dementia Care Home, was delighted as a principal sponsor for the second year running to present prizes to the winning runners.

Thomas took part in the run himself, and this year four more members of staff from Margaret House also took part – meaning a lot of “friendly competition” during training.

He said: “Margaret House is delighted to support this event – not only does it raise money for a fantastic charity, but it is also is a great day out for people living in and around Royston.”
