A PARK in Royston received a national award this week.

Priory Memorial Gardens have been given another Green Flag award in recognition of being one of the nation’s best community parks and green spaces, as well as having excellent facilities and being well maintained.

It is the third consecutive year the gardens, managed by North Herts District Council (NHDC) and John O’Conner Grounds Maintenance Ltd, have been awarded the accolade.

Cllr Peter Burt, portfolio holder for waste management, recycling and environment for NHDC, said: “North Herts has some beautiful parks and open spaces and this award recognises the hard work that goes into keeping them that way.

“The fact that they have been awarded a Green Flag for the third year running is a big achievement.

“Inspirational parks and green spaces have a huge impact on local communities and provide places for everyone, no matter what age, to enjoy.

“Well done to NHDC’s grounds maintenance team, John O’Conner, and local community groups who helped to make them the wonderful places that they are.”
