A ROYSTON man did a supermarket sweep of an unusual kind to raise cash for charity.

Steve Plumb spent four hours on a treadmill outside Royston Tesco to help his push to make £5,000 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and Virgin Unite, the Virgin group's non-profit foundation.

Mr Plumb will be taking part in the London Marathon later this month, and his stint on the treadmill saw him collect £700 as he continues to prepare for the event.

He said: ": "I'm delighted to have had so much support from the local community in helping me get closer to my fundraising target.

"I am really keen to support the East Anglian Air Ambulance because of the great work they do, and running with the Virgin team, which includes Richard Branson, is going to be amazing too."

Mr Plumb thanked Tesco for allowing him to hold the event outside the store, and Cambridge Treadmills who supplied him with a treadmill free of charge.
