The Royston Arts Festival kicked off with the Blue Skies Big Band concert last weekend, which saw toes tapping throughout.

The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Royston and the town’s methodist church.

The band has appeared several times at the fesitval and did not disappoint for their 2018 appearance, performing old favourites including Something Stupid, The Lady is a Tramp, Mr Bojangles and, appropriately, Blue Skies.

The band were said to have played “magnificently”, accompanied by “excellent” vocalists Susan Heath and Ian Hunt.

Brian Norwood, events manager for the Royston Methodist Church, said: “It is nice to be able to join the Rotary club to organise an event that gives a lot of people great pleasure while raising money for a deserving cause.”

The £230 profits from the concert will be donated to Garden House Hospice Care.

There’s much more to come in the Royston Arts Festival, which draws to a close on Sunday.
