A classic bike ride was a huge success on Friday, raising a whopping five-figure sum for charity.
More than 200 cyclists of all ages and abilities took part in the inaugural Willmott Dixon Classic and managed to raise an incredible £70,000 for the charity Action Medical Research.
Paralympic cyclist and former swimmer Jody Cundy – who has seven gold medals to his name – also came out to support the event, which started out from the Royston Heath Sports Club and offered two routes of 86 miles and 69 miles.
The occasion took in places which played a part in the legacy of the construction company, including Bassingbourn – the village where the company had its beginnings.
Rick Willmott, group chief executive of Willmott Dixon, told the Crow: “It was tremendous to see so many riders and volunteers join us to raise money for this fantastic cause and see where it all started for our company in 1852.
“I’d like to thank everyone who supported the event. It was wonderful to raise £70,000 which will help Action Medical Research to stop the suffering of children caused by disease and disability.”
