Annual prom evenings have been thrown for school leavers in Royston and South Cambs.
Bassingbourn VC
Students at Bassingbourn Village College enjoyed blue skies and blistering sunshine for their annual leavers’ prom.
Held in the college, the event attracted hundreds of spectators from surrounding villagers as the students made their entrance on a wide range of transport – everything from a tandem to a Maserati, with tractors, vintage cars, fire engine and camper vans also dropping off their glamorous cargo. The students enjoyed a formal dinner, with desserts provided by the college’s Year 10 catering students. Prom Oscars were awarded to students for achievements throughout their five years at the college and the evening ended with a disco and fireworks.
Vice principal Vickey Poulter said: “We always look forward to prom – it’s such a thrill to see our Year 11 students coming back looking so grown up and glamorous. The students and staff who attended had a great evening.”
Meridian
Meridian School Year 11’s celebrated in style as they were treated to a prom evening for their final farewell.
The arrival of the 89 post GCSE students at Minstrel Court near Wendy was “like a scene from a Hollywood film” as the students stepped out of their array of vehicles to walk up the red carpet and into the beautifully dressed marquee for their arrival drinks.
The students enjoyed an evening of awards, a photo booth and lots of dancing, and was a great success.
A spokeswoman said: “The Meridian School prom committee would like to thank all the parents that assisted in the organisation of the event.
“Big thanks to the volunteers who gave up their time to help with car parking on the evening, Prestige Carpets for donating the red carpet, Linards Ltd printed and donated the tickets, Russell Jones photographer, all the staff at Minstrel Court and all the parents who purchased tickets, outfits and who hired vehicles which made the evening such a wonderful one.”
Melbourn VC
The Moor in Melbourn was once again turned into a stylish catwalk as Year 11 students arrived at the Melbourn Village College School Prom.
A steady flow of super-cars, accompanied by a fire engine and a tractor made the journey to the college to drop off the students in front of an appreciative crowd of parents, friends and well-wishers.
Teachers and staff lined the entrance as they made their way into the casino–themed evening.
A buffet meal was followed by awards and a disco, alongside the opportunity to have that all-important professional portrait photograph with friends that will provide a memento for years to come.
Principal Simon Holmes said: “It was a really excellent evening; the students always look fantastic and the weather was very kind.
“A fitting way to end the year and opportunity to toast the class of 2018.”
