TACKLING vehicle crime is the subject of a road show in Royston.
Police officers from the Royston Safer Neighbourhood team will be holding the Vehicle Crime road show in the car park of Royston Tesco tomorrow (Friday) (November 7).
Pc Dee Welch, who has organised the event, said: "In recent months we have had reports of number plates having been taken from vehicles. Once stolen, they can be used by offenders to disguise their vehicles and commit other crimes.
"Tamper-proof security screws make it very difficult for thieves to take number plates from vehicles. Officers will also be giving out general safety advice."
The event is being supported by the Crime Prevention Panel and the AA, and will see officers handing out free secure number plate screws, which have been funded by Safer Neighbourhood Initiative Fund. The AA will be on hand to fit them free.
Up to 15 per cent of vehicle crime is the theft of number plates.

Eastern Area Commander Chief Superintendent Al Thomas said: "Hertfordshire Constabulary is committed to maintaining low levels of crime and reducing vehicle offences.
"This event is the first of a number which will be held across the area in the coming weeks."
The road show is being held as part of Operation Tarantula, an ongoing initiative run between police and district councils to reduce vehicle crime.
It will be open from 1-5pm in the car park of Royston Tesco.
