THE A505 between Royston and Flint Cross was closed for three hours following a car fire.

Police were called to the scene at just after 6pm. One vehicle, a silver Honda Civic was involved. A fire crew from Royston, wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel, brought the fire under control, and it was extinguished by 6.20pm.

Three people were involved in the incident, but none of them suffered injuries.

A spokesman for Herts Police said: "Quite a lot of oil had been spilled onto the road, and it had to be cleared by the Highways Agency.

"As a result, the A505 remained closed until about 8.55pm.
