Revamped tennis courts unveiled at family-friendly event in Meldreth

A keen tennis player from Meldreth has raised more than £60,000 with the help of the community to revamp tennis courts in the village.
Christine Knight took on the challenge to raise the funding in 2016, and her hard work has paid off after just one year.
She told the Crow: “The courts are a great community asset for the village of Meldreth, and I’m really proud the community has come together for this good cause.
“We are looking forward to the official opening, and will have something for everyone at the courts – we are even setting up junior level tennis so anyone aged three and up can take part.”
Funding for the courts was received from Amey, Meldreth Futures Fund and Meldreth Parish Council, South Cambridgeshire District Council, Tesco, Stansted and Luton airports and The Picture Framers.
Christine has been a member of both Royston and Meldreth tennis clubs for nearly 30 years and prior to this secured new courts on Therfield Heath.
The celebration starts at 10.30am today and district councillor Philippa Hart will cut the ribbon at 11am. The family-friendy fun and games go on until 2pm at the courts in High Street.
