A busy bypass will close at night in less than a fortnight while resurfacing work takes place.

The A505 Royston Bypass will shut on Wednesday, January 15, so the worn-out road surface can be repaired.

The £720,000 scheme, funded by Herts County Council (HCC), is expected to take 13 nights to complete.

The road will be closed between 9pm and 5am from the A1198 Old North Road roundabout and the A505 Little Chef roundabout while the works take place.

Terry Douris, cabinet member for highways at HCC, said: “These works form part of Hertfordshire County Council’s on-going commitment to maintain and improve our roads for the benefit of all road users in Hertfordshire.

“We appreciate that this is a major and busy route and understand that these significant resurfacing works are likely to cause disruption and inconvenience to motorists.”

A spokesman for HCC said the work is weather dependent and from time to time unforeseen circumstances may arise and work may continue outside the advertised hours.

Signed alternative routes will be in place and some bus services will be affected.
