SCARECROWS invaded Bassingbourn on Saturday.

It was an annual event which saw scarecrows of all shapes and sizes placed all around the village.

Some were hanging out of windows or were seen in trees while others were sitting quietly in gardens.

In the competition, Gilly Marklew came first with her mermaid scarecrow, while Derek and Daisy

Dellar were second with their Winter Olympics scarecrow, and Lisa Waller third with her interpretation of Batman.

One of the organisers, Ann Lynn, of The Cricketer's Arms pub, said: "The day was successful and something we will do again next year. Everyone put so much effort into making their scarecrows."

Meanwhile, a street market held in North End raised £1,500 for Bassingbourn Parish Church.
