RESIDENTS in Royston have been assured this week that complete details of new bin collections will be available by next week.

North Herts District Council is currently distributing a CD giving details of new collections and re-cycling plans.

A district council spokesman said that about 80 per cent of properties in Royston had already received the CD.

He said the remaining properties would have the CD by October 5.

New alternative week bin collections are due to be introduced on October 15.

Residents have told The Crow over the past week that details about the scheme had not been received.

The new scheme will see the end of the once-a-week collections for most residential properties.

The district council believes the scheme will help in seeing an increase in re-cycling.

At the moment 34 per cent of waste is being re-cycled, but the district council hopes to increase the figure to 50 per cent of waste by 2012.

Earlier this month, the district council said it would not be introducing any kind of pay-as-you-throw scheme.
