Reports lead to a double celebration

A SCHOOL and a day nursery are celebrating after achieving "good" status in Ofsted inspections.

Inspectors praised Roysia School in Royston for the way in which teachers support pupils in both their personal and educational development.

Headteacher Peter Fielden said: "Under the new system of inspection, you only get a few days' notice that the inspectors will be coming in, whereas previously you would know 18 months in advance.

"The inspectors saw children working hard, showing positive attitudes' and enjoying being at the school.

"It's a great boost for the staff to get such a positive result."

Mr Fielden said the inspectors were particularly impressed with provision for sports and arts at Roysia.

"We have so many things going on here, during the day and also in terms of after school clubs.

"When the inspectors came, some of the children were working with a professional actor on a production of The Tempest, and recently they have been on a trip to the Henry Moore Foundation."

Chairman of governors at Roysia, David Brynjolffssen, said: "The report confirms Roysia is a successful school with a constructive atmosphere in which children can be both happy make good progress."

- Bumpkins Day Nursery at Whaddon, was also given "good" school status.

Ofsted inspectors said the nursery was "outstanding", both in terms of the quality of teaching and learning, and in helping children achieve well and enjoy what they do.

Vanessa Taylor, general manager of the nursery, said: "To achieve an outstanding in the areas of children's achievements and education is superb, and the highest level possible in Ofsted inspection.

"I am very proud of all the staff at Bumpkins who have worked so very hard to achieve this outstanding result.
