As well as services in Melbourn, Ashwell, and the Mordens to name a few, there were 40 wreaths laid this year in Royston by numerous groups during the service where the parade was once again led by bagpiper Roy Sloane again from the Highland Regiment Blackwatch.
The Poppy Appeal organiser for Royston is Lorraine McCleod.
“It was a terrific turnout and a lovely sunny day.
“A big thank you must go to the Royal British Legion branch chairman Chris Murphy for organising the parade, and putting on an afternoon of entertainment and thanks to volunteers from the Royston Poppy Appeal Team for handing out orders of service and collecting donations.
“The poppy collecting pots will be collected in from shops, schools, businesses and counted over the next few weeks and will then be able to give a grand total.
“We have had a few obstacles in our way this year, what with the delivery being late, not the usual school packs and what with Tesco garage closing for a week,Morrisons being ram-raided and just missing our poppy table, then Queens Road shop being smashed into, our poppy pots survived once more!”
“Once again the good people of Royston have been generous and have made donations and have made a real effort by attending the parade and also more people attending the service on Friday on Armistice Day.”
