World War I Armistice: Where to pay your respects in Royston and villages

Here’s a round-up of where you can pay your respects to the fallen for the centenary of the end of the First World War on Sunday.
9am Priory Memorial Gardens service to the 91st Bomb Group.
Main parade – meet at Queens Road, parade steps off at 10.25am and arrive at Royston War Memorial at 10.35am, service – attended by Royston mayor Councillor Iain Leggett and Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Neville Reyner among others – starts at 10.45am.
Barkway War Memorial 10.50am.
Barley War Memorial 10.50am.
Bassingbourn – At 9.30am, it’s the Act of Remembrance at the Cemetery War Graves in The Causeway. At 10am, the Bassingbourn Ringers will commence a 30-minute half-muffled ring at the parish church. From 10.30am, parish councillors, the schools, Royal British Legion and more will gather with villagers at the war memorial. At the 11th hour, the Last Post bugle call will signal the two-minute silence.
The service will close with a prayer and children will sing Keep the Home Fires Burning. Afterwards, there’s a display of 350 poppies at the parish church, and, as in 1918, there will be a street party open to all at the Limes Community Rooms from 1.30pm.
Finally, the church tower bells will ring out un-muffled to reflect the joy that echoed around the world in 1918.
IWM Duxford – At 11am, a two-minute silence will be observed, starting and ending with a whistle blast in remembrance of the signal to go ‘over the top’ in the trenches during the First World War. At 12.30pm, RAF Cadets will lead a procession from the centre of the museum site to AirSpace in preparation for a traditional Service of Remembrance at 1pm. Admission to IWM Duxford is free to all visitors on Sunday.
Fowlmere War Memorial 10.05am.
Melbourn – parade in High Street, road closed between 10.30am and 11.15am between the Moor and Mortlock Street.
Reed – St Mary’s Church concert at 3pm – adults £10, children free, call 01763 848 398.
Sandon – Commemorative Stone blessing at All Saints’ Church at 10.15am followed by service.
The Mordens: 8.45am – RAF Memorial, 9.30am Odsey Memorial, 10am – Steeple Morden Memorial, 10.45am – Guilden Morden Memorial at St Mary’s Church 11am – minute’s silence and Remembrance service in the church.
Therfield – 5pm exhibition in Fordham Hall, 6.30pm a torchlight procession to Hitches Field, beacon lighting at 7pm and fireworks display at 7.20pm. Thriplow 10.25am – wreath laying at and a Remembrance Service at St George’s Church from 10.45am.
