At this time of year we all want to remember the heroes and the fallen of past and present conflicts – here’s where you can join Armistice and Remembrance services in Royston and surrounds this weekend.

A Remembrance service will be held on Saturday at the Royston War Memorial in Melbourn Street begining at 10.50am.

The service will then move to Priory Memorial Gardens to honour members of the 91st Bombardment Group of the Eighth United States Army Air Force, stationed at Bassingbourn during the Second World War.

There will also be a Remembrance Parade on Sunday in the town, starting at Queens Road at 10am.

Other Sunday services at village war memorials include Odsey at 9.30am, Steeple Morden at 10am, Melbourn’s service starts at 10.30am, Barley’s is at 10.40am, the Bassingbourn service starts at 10.45 and Barkway’s service is at 10.55am.

Events will begin in Royston on Saturday, November 11, with the Royston Remembrance service being held at the war memorial in Melbourn Street begining at 10.50 am. The service will then move on to the Priory Memorial Gardens to honour members of the 91st Bombardment Group of the Eighth United States Army Air Force, who died whilst stationed at Bassingbourn during the Second World War.

There will be a Rememberance parade the next day on Sunday in Royston. The parade will start to form at Queens Road at 10.00am, with various organisations taking part. The parade will step off at 10.25am and arrive at Melb

ourn Street by 10.40 am, The Service of Remembrance will start at 10.45 and should finish by 11.15 am. Melbourn will be holding its Remembrance parade and service on Sunday from 10.30am. In Bassingbourn, there will be a service at their war memorial on Sunday from 10.45am, followed by a service at the Parish Church, with ceremonies being held in Odsey at 9.30am and Steeple Morden at 10am, Barley at 10.40am and Barkway at 10.55am.

Sunday November 12 - Remembrance Day Parade

The Remembrance Parade and Service in Melbourn will take place on Sunday, 12th November.

The Service will be conducted by the Rev Elizabeth Shipp following a Parade led by the Army Cadets from No 2 Cromwell Company along with members of the Parish Council, Melbourn and Meldreth District Royal British Legion Women’s Section, Melbourn Guides and Brownies, Orwell Scout troop and representatives of Melbourn Ambulance Station.

Rev Shipp will conduct a short service at 11.00hrs on Saturday 11th November at the War Memorial.She will also conduct a service in Meldreth at 09.30 on Sunday.
