ARMY recruits have been getting their hands dirty as part of their 20 week training course.
Twenty-eight recruits aged 16 and 17 spent the morning at the Royston Royal British Legion headquarters scrubbing skirting boards, and cleaning kitchen walls and ovens.
Team commander Captain Barry Cooke said: "This was a non-military exercise where the recruits learned respect for others, teamwork, and leadership skills."
Help was offered to the Legion after the recruits were led by a British Legion guide on a visit to Ypes in Belgium.
Captain Cooke added: "The recruits saw the reality of war at Ypes. We had a guide from the Legion and so we wanted to do something to help them in return."
The recruits with the Army Training Regiment are due to pass out in August.
