GUESTS arrived at the Manor House in Buntingford for the launch of the Isabel Hospice 25th anniversary celebrations.

The hospice invited people from Buntingford and the surrounding areas to raise awareness and enrol new volunteers and fund-raisers.

The event gave visitors the chance to talk to existing members of the Welwyn Garden City-based hospice, including volunteers, nurses, and trustees.

There was also a triple cheque presentation involving Reed Cricket Club, The Crown pub in Buntingford, and four bike riding youngsters.

Fund raising co-ordinator Cheryl Cusack said: "The event went very well and we were delighted to receive such generous donations.

"We've also had some very positive feedback from visitors, who have offered their services.

"To add six more volunteers is fantastic, and they will benefit the hospice greatly."

Reed Cricket club donated £740 from their 50th anniversary celebrations, while Cherry Harrington of The Crown handed over a £1000 cheque.

Buntingford youngsters Demi Prosser, Toby Hone, Dustin Hone, and Mark Norman raised £220 after completing a 22-mile village cycle.

Cheryl said: "To see such young people giving us their time and efforts is most encouraging.

"We are extremely grateful to everyone who turned up, and we would also like to thank the mayor and deputy mayor of Buntingford for their involvement."

Buntingford deputy mayor Jean Cook said: "It was a lovely day. The hospice received some very kind offers of help and support and there were a number of cheques presented."

Cheryl added: "The hospice has a lot of events coming up that are all linked with the 25th anniversary."
