A MAN who was killed after being struck by an express train yesterday (Wednesday) is believed to be a 53 year old from Ashwell.
Police said the train was travelling at over 50mph when the driver saw the man emerge from the undergrowth at the South end of Ashwell and Morden station and stand on the track.
He sounded his horn and applied the emergency brake but was unable to avoid striking the man.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police added that the death was not being treated as suspicious and identification is being verified through fingerprints.
