POLICE raided a property in Royston yesterday (Wednesday) during an investigation into prostitution. About 10 police officers gathered in Perry Drive at 1pm to carry out a search warrant of a property in Mortimer Road. The raid was part of Operation Alford, an investigation being carried-out by Cambridgeshire police. When The Crow went to press yesterday afternoon no-one had been arrested at the address. The on-going investigation has taken 18 months to plan and investigate. In Cambridge, nine arrests have been made so far. At 7am yesterday morning two men, aged 40 and 41 from Cambridge were arrested and questioned in connection with prostitution and money laundering. Other arrests have been made at eight other addresses which included four at properties alleged to have been used as brothels. Det Insp Dan Vajzovic, who has led the operation, said: "Prostitution and money laundering make up a small part of the total picture of serious and organised crime. "However, very often it is these smaller operations that fuel the bigger operations, including drug and people trafficking and terrorism. "By clamping down and disrupting these smaller operations, we can go some way to tackling the bigger problem.
