A PUPIL from Bassingbourn Primary School received a certificate of achievement after her quick thinking helped to save her mother's life. Nine-year-old Emma-Louise Rivvers was presented with the certificate on Friday by Lt Col Nick Richardson, commanding officer of the Army Training Regiment at Bassingbourn Barracks. Emma's mum, Lisa, who suffers from epilepsy and asthma, said: "She is an amazing child." Her dad, L/Cpl Mark Rivvers, who is a musician in The Minden Band, said: "Last October Lisa had suffered a couple of fits while I was at work. "When I got back, Lisa was short of breath. I quickly went to the kitchen and when I came back she was fitting. "Emma had already phoned for an ambulance, and while I was giving her mouth-to-mouth, she was relaying messages back and forth. "She was just really calm and didn't panic at all. She has been dealing with it since she was tiny, but she was brilliant." At a special assembly at the school, Emma-Louise was awarded the certificate in front of her classmates. Lt Col Richardson said at the assembly: "Emma-Louise's actions were very brave and adult." Headteacher Jane Ward said: "It's so lovely to have a pupil in this school who's so kind especially when under pressure. "Emma stayed calm, looked after her mum and because of that her mum is very proud of her.
