MILLFIELD School in Buntingford has introduced a breakfast club for pupils. The club was set up after the school carried out a survey, which revealed that parents were interested in the initiative. Head teacher Debra Blizzard said: "Our aim is to provide a healthy breakfast for children. "It's easier for parents to drop their children off at 8am than let them eat their breakfast at home in a stressful environment when they are getting ready for work." Cereals, porridge, fresh fruit and juices are on offer to children. Mrs Blizzard said: "It's self-sufficient. We are teaching them life skills. "We're offering children a second home in a happy, safe environment. "It's for those parents who would like to be at home with their children but can't. So this is the next best thing." The club is open to all children in the community aged 3-11 years. The second phase of the initiative will be introduced after the February half-term break, and will mean that nursery children who normally stay until 11.15am will be able to remain for lunch until 1.30pm.
