SCHOOL children have been taught the value of getting involved with their community.

Pupils from Tannery Drift First School met town councillor Lindsay Davidson and district councillor Fiona Hill to talk about the work they do and explain why there is a need for councillors and a Government.

Pupils were encouraged to ask questions and give their views on what they would like to see happen in Royston and their school.

Councillors will also being going into schools to talk to children about local government, under the new initiative which has been launched by former Royston town mayor Bill Prime.

Cllr Hill said: "It was a positive reaction. The children seemed to be aware because they have their own school council.
