PUPILS at a Royston school are disappointed they still do not have a crossing patrol.
Grace Thompson, a Year 5 pupil at Greneway School, set up a campaign last year to have a crossing patrol near the school, in Garden Walk.
Her mother Lisa said at the time: "A crossing attendant is needed.
"There will be a fatal accident down here if something isn't done."
Hertfordshire County Council agreed that road safety needed to be improved, and said it would be advertising for the position.
However, more than six months later, there is still no crossing patrol.
Heather Hill, crossing patrol service manager at the county council, said: "The road did match the criteria, and we have been actively looking for someone, but have had no interest.
"We have done three leaflet drops which we repeat every six-eight weeks in different areas, and we have put them into the school, so parents are aware."
Emma Daintrey from Greneway School said that the pupils had been 'very hopeful about having a crossing patrol'.
She said: "We are very disappointed that we were unable to provide a safe means of crossing the road for the children.
"We are fearful that there might be another nasty accident on the road. There have been some close misses.
"Cars travel very fast down Garden Walk, and speed restrictions are needed when the school is opening and closing.
"The council needs to provide an attractive package, so people will come forward for the job."
Mrs Hill added: "It is a paid position and we would love to hear from someone who would be interested in the job."
Anyone interested in the position should call 01992 556015.
