PUPILS from a village school have been getting an energetic wake up call in the mornings.

Wake and Shake has been introduced by teachers at Bassingbourn Primary School in a bid to get children moving and enjoying physical development.

At 8.40am all the pupils gather in the playground for 10 minutes of lively activity.

Fronted by a teacher, the pupils run, skip and jump to music.

Amanda Banks, a teacher at the school and organiser of Wake and Shake, said: "The children are enjoying our aerobic sessions first thing in the morning and are getting used to the routine.

"Bassingbourn Primary School hopes to gain the Healthy Schools Mark this year and this initiative is just the start of many more to come."

The teachers and pupils have joined Cambridgeshire schools in teaching two hours of high quality PE.
