THE SECRETS of the Knights Templar have been revealed to a group of pupils from Roysia School.

Year five students from the school paid a visit to Royston Cave on Tuesday, where they were given a talk on the history of the 13th century cavern by keeper of the cave, Peter Holdcroft.

A lot of the children's class mates have been on a residential trip to Norfolk this week, so the visit to the cave was arranged as a treat for those left behind.

A spokesman for the school said: "We like to make the week just as special and interesting for those children who stay here as those who go away.

"This year we have been looking at local history, and will the use the cave visit to inspire work in lots of other curriculum areas for the rest of the week.

"For example, we will be making Knights Templar puppets and plan to investigate the geology of the area that allowed the cave to exist in the first place."

As part of the visit, the children filled in a questionnaire based on what they had been told by Mr Holdcroft.

The spokesman added: "It's great that when the others come back the children who have stayed here have just as much to talk about and show each as the one's who have been away.
