A pub in Royston which has been closed for four weeks reopened yesterday following a £200,000 refurbishment.

The South African themed Barracuda Bar, formerly known as the Old Post Office, in Baldock Street, offers lunchtime and evening dining, sports matches and evening entertainment with new DJs lined up.

Manager Dave Brambley said: "There is a more relaxed atmosphere with a fantastic menu for lunchtime and evening dining.

"Before the refurbishment the pub was more like a sports venue but now it is more female friendly."

He has applied to North Herts District Council to extend the bar's opening hours to 1am on Thursdays and 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

A decision will be made on March 26.
