A WORKING partnership between Buntingford Town Council and the town centre management team could be set-up. Cllr John Warren, who is chairman of the management team, raised the suggestion at a meeting of the town council's resources committee. "The idea of the partnership is to get the town council more involved in the management team and work for the benefit of the town as a whole," he said. "It is asking for a working relationship and commitment to the way the management team works and is funded." But Cllr Pat Whittaker opposed the idea, saying: "I don't think it would work properly. One group is an elected body representing the people of Buntingford and the other is a private entity. "And some of the things the management team does cost money and residents might be concerned the money is coming from the town council." Cllr Sanjit Basra said he could see both the advantages and disadvantages of the partnership. He said: "It's a good idea, but whether it will work or not I don't know. "A partnership would promote the town and it would enable businesses to thrive. However, they are two different bodies. "The town council is answerable to the public and the management team is not so it will think differently. "And if you are answerable to the public you have got to be careful with decisions and public money," he added. The town council is to appoint two representatives to look at the way in which a partnership could be set-up.
