PROPOSALS to demolish a property and develop the site have been described as "totally unsuitable".

Members of Royston Town Council's planning committee said on Monday evening that the scheme was out of character and an over-development on the site.

They were discussing proposals to demolish a property in Melbourn Road, Royston, and build 12 apartments on the site.

An original plan had been for 14 apartments.

Cllr Lindsey Davidson said: "The revised plan doesn't make any difference at all. It is still an over-development."

And Cllr Rod Kennedy described the proposals as "totally unsuitable".

Members also raised concerns about access to the site.

n A plan to convert outbuildings in Upper King Street into dwellings has been given the support of the planning committee.

Committee chairman Cllr Bill Prime said the current condition of the site was "sticking out like a sore thumb".

Cllr Bob Smith said the scheme was a "sympathetic conversion" for the outbuildings.
