A TEAM of chemical engineers from Royston have received a commendation for their work.

The engineers from Johnson Matthey, based in Orchard Road, were shortlisted for the ABB Sustainable Technology award at IChemE's annual awards dinner in Birmingham.

The ceremony attracted almost 500 people from more than 20 countries. Despite being beaten into second place by the University of Porto, Portugal, Johnson Matthey was highly commended for its filter, which is designed to tackle diesel exhaust soot.

IChemE chief executive Dr David Brown said: "The Johnson Matthey effort is a great example of what chemical engineers can do.
