Pot luck

Crafty pupils from Studlands Rise School, in Royston, took part in Paint Your Mini-Pot Day in aid of Marie Cure Cancer Care. The final stage of the initiative, which is supported by Yellow Pages, saw pupils paint the pots which contained daffodils they planted as bulbs last autumn. Now they have bloomed they are celebrating the start of the charity's annual fund-raising Great Daffodil Appeal which hopes to raise £4million. Money raised through the initiative will help to fund the charity's work. Deputy head teacher Pat Morritt said: "The children have had a brilliant time and really enjoyed painting their pots and comparing their daffodils. "It was great to see them get into the creative spirit and they all enjoyed the educational classroom activities which taught them about growth and plants. "We all spent time learning about Marie Curie's nurses and the children feel proud of helping such a worthwhile cause." The pots will be judged across the country and one winner from each of 49 regions will be selected to win a prize donated by Homebase, and the winning pupil's school will receive a prize donated by Yellow Pages.
