THE long wait is nearly over for Melbourn residents wanting to post a letter - it is just over a week until the new post office will open.
The post office, which will be opening on May 30, will be at 107 High Street.
The former post office was closed in August 2004 and left residents having to travel to nearby villages for services.
But Sharanal Malhotra has stepped in and is currently converting the old video shop.
She said: "I'm very excited. We're just in the process of renovating the premises."
Villagers are invited to attend a welcoming party on Sunday, May 28 from midday to meet the new postmistress.
- The post office opening times will be 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, and 9am-12.30pm on Saturdays.
