Over the summer holidays, the Royston & District Poppy Appeal team are running ‘Poppy rocks’ – a spin off to Royston Rocks movement which has been sweeping the town.
Lorraine McCleod, who spearheads the poppy appeal effort in the town has organised the initiative where those taking part each paint a poppy on a rock and their allocated number on the other side.
They then take a picture of their rock and upload it to the Facebook page, before hiding the rocks in town.
When a rock is found, the finder can look in a folder in the library to check what soldier they have, as each numbered rock corresponds to a soldier from the war memorial. They then hide it again.
Lorraine said: “It has been popular so far with around 300 rocks, but more are welcome. Anyone with any extra information on the soldiers can add to the folder too.”
