Thousands of poppy seeds have been planted in Royston to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I.
The seeds have been planted in large containers in the Priory Memorial Gardens and the Grossalmerode Gardens, outside the town hall, by members of the Royston in Bloom committee.
Royston in Bloom chairman Les Baker said: “We were keen to commemorate this important anniversary and planting poppy seeds seemed to be a most appropriate way.
“We hope this will help people remember the tragic and appalling events of 100 years ago and the people – especially those from Royston – who gave their lives during World War I.”
The seeds are expected to bloom in August – the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War.
