THE future of the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal in Royston has been secured, thanks to the help of the Crow.

Two weeks ago we published a plea for volunteers to help keep the appeal going, and since the article organisers have been flooded with offers of help.

Community fundraiser for the Poppy Appeal Natasha Robertson said: “A couple of weeks ago I was really panicking that the Royston Poppy Appeal was going to disappear through lack of support.

“As a result of the appeal in the Crow we have had a fantastic response from the readers and I am really thrilled that the community is coming together.

“With people offering to collect, deliver poppies and want to be involved with the Poppy Appeal it has brought life back into the appeal.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to the Crow for promoting this need for more volunteers and to everyone who has contacted us and put their name down to help.”

Although people are coming forward the charity is still in need of more helpers and would love to hear from anyone who is keen to get involved. All those who have come forward will now be contacted, and a volunteer evening is likely to be held in the near future.

Natasha said: “We can never have enough volunteers and would love to hear from anyone who would like to join the local team.”

The RBL needs £200,000 a day to care for British Armed Forces, past and present, and their families, and the Poppy Appeal is their main source of income.
