Porky the cat was left with a badly injured paw after it became trapped in a gin trap.

Vets at the Woolpack Surgery in Reed, where the cat was taken, are urging people to think twice about using traps.

Georgina Laycock, a veterinary surgeon, said: "People heard a sound and discovered Porky was trying to drag the trap along the ground, as he had one leg caught in it.

"He had freed it from the ground and was just obviously trying to get home.

"We don't see it very often, but it is extremely upsetting for the owners. Hopefully, by reading this, if people had been using the traps they might think twice about using them again in the future."

It is illegal to use a gin trap for trapping in this country.
