Residents at a Barley care home were delighted to welcome a very special visitor.

Pistachio, the miniature Shetland pony, who – when he is not eating grass – works as a therapy pony, was happy to be stroked and to pose for photos at Margaret House Residential and Dementia Care Home.

Not only did he greet people in the garden, he was also so well behaved that he was able to go and see residents in the lounge – and even in their bedrooms too.

Activities co-ordinator at Margaret House, Lea-Ann Smith, arranged the visit.

She told the Crow: “It was a lot of work to actually get Pistachio here, but it has been well worth it as it has been brilliant seeing everyone’s face light up when he came towards them and residents have been talking about his visit in the days since.”
