People interested in hearing the latest update on the reintroduction of ANPR cameras in Royston are invited to attend a town council meeting on Monday.
Chief Insp Julie Wheatley, who oversees the police in North Herts, will be giving a presentation to the council on policing matters at the beginning of the meeting, and will be raising the topic of ANPR.
The meeting will be held at 7.30pm in Room 11 of the Town Hall in Melbourn Street.
The ANPR system of seven cameras that used to operate in the town – labelled locally as the ‘Royston Ring of Steel’ – was ruled to be unlawful by the Information Commissioner’s Office in 2013, leading to five of the cameras being removed.
After a surge in break-ins before Christmas, Chief Insp Wheatley prepared a case to the strategic ANPR team to introduce more cameras to monitor a known problem area that criminals were using to get into and out of the town.
