MORE than 1,500 drivers were breathalysed during an anti drink-driving campaign.

And Herts police said that 113 were driving over the limit.

The campaign was run in the weeks leading up to Christmas and over the New Year.

Fewer drivers were tested during the period than in 2006, but police were involved in more "targeted stops".

Chief Insp Nigel Brown, of the strategic road policing unit, said: "The percentage of positive breath tests in the anti-drink campaign has been reduced year-on-year and appears to have stabilised at a relatively low level."

He continued, however: "A minority of people continue to flout the law and risk their own lives and other people's lives."

And he warned: "Drink-driving will not be tolerated in Herts.
