POLICE are pledging to clamp down on motorists who dodge fines.
Under previous legislation, drivers who did not have a satisfactory address in the UK were often not paying fines because of the difficulty tracing them.
However, a new initiative being implemented by Cambridgeshire Police will see those without a UK address being issued with on the spot fines.
Insp Chris Skepper, from the roads policing unit, said: "This new system has been put in place to ensure fine dodgers who have previously escaped their fines because they do not have a satisfactory UK address now have to pay like all other motorists.
"It's about sending a strong message to everyone who uses the county's roads that committing traffic offences is not acceptable and there will be consequences for everyone caught," he said.
The rules will also be applied to drivers of commercial vehicles, and fines will range from 60 - 200 depending on the severity of the infringement.
