POLICE have named a man who died after being hit by a train near Royston on Friday.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "BTP can confirm that the man who died after being struck by a train at Royston railway station on Friday, 16 April was Richard Savage, 59, from Cambridge.

"The incident is being treated as non-suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Officers from the BTP and Herts Police were called to the scene at 10.40am on Friday. Paramedics from Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Ambulance Service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The line was closed for two hours following the incident, which involved the 10.20am Cambridge to London King's Cross service.
