POLICE have been out and about in Royston's car parks as part of an anti-car crime initiative, Operation Tarantula.
And they have already discovered handbags, iPod's, and satellite navigation systems on display for potential thieves
Police Community Support Officers spent a morning patrolling the Tesco car park in Royston.
They were checking vehicles to see whether any valuable items were on show and handing out vehicle crime prevention packs to motorists.
Neighbourhood P Sgt Pete Frost said: "Car crime is such a preventable thing, and Operation Tarantula is all about informing people of the dangers, and ensuring that they take appropriate action.
Operation Tarantula is now in full swing across north and east Herts, and officers will making further visits to other car parks in Royston and the surrounding villages in the coming weeks,
Sgt Frost added: "Royston is a low crime area and we want it to stay that way.
