POLICE have today (Monday) issued an appeal for witnesses after a robbery on a security van in Buntingford.

The incident happened outside Barclays Bank in the High Street, Buntingford, on Thursday at 4.10pm.

Two men approached a member of the security staff before taking the cash box.

Police said it contained a substantial amount of cash.

The two men attempted to escape from the scene in a silver Valuxhall Astra, but this was in collision with a VW Passat.

The thieves transferred to a green BMW which was being driven by a woman and they travelled in the direction of Westmill.

The driver of the VW Passat was not injured in the collision.

Det Insp Damien Kennedy, who is investigating the incident, has called for anyone who may have witnessed the robbery to contact police.
