A "CUNNING ploy" could lead towards restoring the No17 Royston town bus service.

Cllr F John Smith told members of North Herts District Council's Royston area committee that there could be a 16A route and a 16B route.

"We will still be talking about one route, but with a sensible suggestion of making modifications.

"It could be a cunning ploy," he said.

His idea came after Cllr Peter Burt suggested that there could be a "blending" of two services.

The No17 town bus service was cut in a cash-saving exercise by Herts County Council after the district council decided not to pay any subsidy towards bus routes.

Cllr Tony Hunter said: "We have to have a hard look at the routes at the end of the current contracts.
