CONTROVERSIAL plans to raise the speed limit on the A10 near Royston have been shelved.
The plan to up the limit from 30mph to 40mph between the entrance to Royston Hospital and The Warren had come under fire from local residents after it was revealed in The Crow last month.
However, following consultation with local people, and district councillors Peter Burt and Fiona Hill, Hertfordshire Highways is now pursuing other solutions for the area.
Royston Town Council had opposed the scheme, and Cllr Burt told Monday's full town council meeting: "This council has had an effect. The 30mph limit will remain in place, and the possibility of a 40mph buffer zone further up the road will be investigated."
Cllr Hill told The Crow: "We've come up with some other suggestions which will hopefully be taken on board, although nothing has been decided yet.
"What was initially proposed was totally unacceptable, and nothing like what had been spoken about at the highways joint member panel.
