A PLANE crashed near the Imperial War Museum at Duxford yesterday (Wednesday).
The T-33 twin-seater military training jet went down on the Royston side of the airfield by the A505 about 2.30pm.
A museum spokeswoman said no members of the public were involved. One of the two crew members, a 59-year-old man, was believed to have suffered injuries and was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital.
Sue Pateman, operations manager of the East of England Ambulance Service, said witnesses reported seeing the plane clipping a tree. It then somersaulted and caught fire on impact with the ground.
She said: "The crew escaped serious injury and managed to get out of the wreckage.
"Both men have clearly been extremely lucky to escape," she added.
An investigation is to be carried out into the incident.
