People in Royston are invited to pop into St John the Baptist Parish Church in the town to admire their Christmas tree – and its modest 1,500 baubles and 6,000 lights.

Over the years the tree has become a popular focal point of Royston at Christmas, and last year there were more than 600 baubles with messages attached.

This year’s tree, which was launched at the town’s Christmas fair last weekend, is said to look ‘quite spectacular’ in the darkened church.

Church member Christopher Wallis said: “We always leave the bottom branches empty so that visitors can place baubles on the tree in memory of loved ones who are not with them this Christmas. The church is open daily and we’d be delighted if people paid us a visit and attached a bauble.”
