OVER 1,000 hours of nursing care will be funded by the profits from this year's Pink Ribbon run/walk.

This year's run, which took place in July on Therfield Heath, raised 21,500 for Marie Curie cancer care. A cheque was presented to Anne Harlow, a Marie Curie nurse, at the event's presentation night, held last week at the Heath Sports Club.

Mandy Jinkerson, from the organising committee of the Pink Run, said: "We are delighted to be able to hand over such a large sum of money, its costs 20 an hour to fund a Marie Curie nurse, this money will fund over 1,000 hours of nursing care, which will make a real difference to local people.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors for their support enabling us to put on the event and support such a good cause," she added.

Ms Harlow said: "Many people when faced with a terminal illness want to spend their last days at home and without the support of the Marie Curie nurse would have to go into hospital or a hospice, we are there for patients and their carers at what can be the most stressful and exhausting time of their lives."

The presentation evening saw Royston MP Oliver Heald handing out certificates and prizes to top fund raisers Alexa Thompson (under-14's), Steven Wagstaff (14 - 16's), and Amy Murphy (over-16's).
